Today, KALRO was pleased to host the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, at the Dairy Research Institute (DRI), Naivasha. He was received by the KALRO Board Chairman Dr. Thuo Mathenge, KALRO Director General Dr. Patrick Ketiem and other directors. The visit focused on exploring animal feed options and deliberating on effective strategies for distributing feed to drought-affected areas to prevent livestock losses.
During the visit, the CS toured the Utafiti Feed Mill, where he was taken through the various types of animal feeds produced at the Institute and the full production process. He commended KALRO for its commitment to producing high-quality feeds designed to promote optimal livestock health and productivity, noting their critical role in supporting farmers during challenging climatic conditions.
The CS also inspected the Institute’s hay barns to confirm the availability of feed for distribution under the Government’s drought mitigation initiative. He later visited the livestock units, where he observed the animals in excellent condition an outcome he attributed to the quality feeds produced at the Institute reinforcing KALRO’s role in safeguarding farmer livelihoods and strengthening national food security.
